Default Issue with cut scenes

I was doing the dunes of despair mission with a group today, and we killed all the baddies that get aggro'd around the drawbridge where it drops and you go into the temple. For one of our people, it was his first mission, so he wanted to watch the cutscene. So we are sitting there, watching the cutscene, and a group of centaurs rolls up on us, and starts attacking us during the cutscene. There is no way to communicate with the 6th player who wants to watch the scene, so we are all sitting there, listening to the ghost, and watching ourselves be slaughtered defenseless. It would be nice if you could still have the chat log available while a cutscene is playing, so you can tell the noob guy to click skip so you don't die, or to make it so you cannot take damage during a cutscene. Any thoughts on this or suggestions?

i guess that's a benefit for having some type of chat implemented during cutscenes. but it might also start some arguements during it. because some ppl get easily offended, when being told what to do. (so ask and never tell )

heres what happened with my experience. *SPOILER*

One of the last parts to "Thunderhead Keep" mission.
the dwarf king and group starts talking to the Viz guy (forgot his full name)7 out of 8 wants to skip.
while cutscene, a necro fiend survives and starts range nailing (w/thorn-like things) the king. Im like holy cow. doesnt this 1 person see it. we could lose the mission if the king dies....are u insane...skip whoever you are...

it wasnt a short cutscene. so by the time it ended. the king was half-life and the only thing that saved us was the fiend ran out of timed hp(since necro summons have limited lifespan. thank god for that)

so we got lucky and completed the mission....it was pretty nerve-wrecking and some ppl just dont get it sometimes. hehe

well that's all.

-a small chat window at the bottom would be good to have. its to not force ppl, but to notify ppl if there is one of those "glitched" moments = (as someone had in the screens expo section->) a cutscene tomfoolery.hehe.

I think better than a chat window would be the inability to lose health during a cutscene. Chat windows could easily lead to arguments and arguments are never good.

I'm kind of unclear on why mobs are allowed to attack during cutscenes.

two resolutions:

1- have "optional" end cutscene per player not per group. So if players want to jump out of hte cutscene and continue on to wherever or in the place they're in, do it.

2- every cutscene is accompanied by an automatic 500% return dmg vs. physical and magic, and orison of healing +10 regen. This would totally take care of anything attacking.

these two together would eliminate all complaints as there would be no danger in watching and those who don't wish to waste their 2 minutes for the sake of someone on the first time through could still skip it as they wish.

you can't, but the baddies are right there on top of you for when the cut scene ends, and since they're already in the mode they tear you to shreds before you even get oriented.

Actually I think you do take damage in cut-scenes. I've seen ppl who got attacked in the cut-scene already dead when the cut-scene ended.

I wouldn't want the chat during the cutscene. People should be able to enjoy the story of the game. I could see it now....

"SKIP IT NOOB"
"**** we have another ****ing noob on the team"
(add more rude comments here)

It's not the players fault that the cutscenes are poorly designed. Don't get me wrong, It is horrible to be laying on the ground when the scene is over.

I think if enemys start attacking, you shouldn't take dmg till after the cutscene. Even though the enemy will be right there, it will give a fighting chance for the team to survive. I don't put all the blame on Anet. If the team would have cleared the area then the enemys would not be there to kill you in the cutscene. (though some scenes are auto and can't be controlled)

I've actually had some thoughts on this, and came up with an idea.
Instead of adding a chat box, why not just make it, so that if more then half the group wants to skip the cutscene, then, it skips the cutscene. I meen, if you really want to see it, do the mission again with henchmen.

Most missions later on in the game are practically impossible to complete with henchmen.

Yeah, but henchmen are good enough to get you to almost all the cutscenes.

When I know that theres a 3 miniute cut scene in a long mission I go AFK and go to the bathroom or get a drink. So no if half the team wants to skip you skip.

As for bad guys attacking you just make it so that they think every thing on the map is alied with them so they don't attack. As for noobs not skipping cutscenes why should they skip em? They are playing the game and might want to know the story. Theres many times when I won't skip a cutscene even if I have scene it until every one else has skipped. This stops those over eager players who ask later about the story cause they skipped all the movies.

No way, my first time in Abaddon's Mouth, an hour long struggle, maybe longer... someone drops adding to the frustration, everyone is at like -30dp or more and then we beat the final boss... and then... the biggest spoiler I've seen so far omitted... why? because 3/5 of the remaining live players wanted to skip it... I miss one of the most important moments on a killer mission that I've no wish to subject myself to again, because of the impatience of 3 others? Never! The only fair way to solve it is to let those who skip go to the next zone without those who wish to watch. Just gray the names out till all are in the same zone.

I have no problem with people watching Cut Scenes if they haven't seen them before. We were all there at one time and in the same boat.
Let new players watch the cutscene or you'll get questions during the mission of why are we doing this, that and the other. Saves time in answering them.

As for letting others get on with the level. Errm. Not sure about this one. What if the new player doesn't know where he is going and gets killed by a wandering mob. You're then one player down and have to trudge back to revive him

Just make the Cutscenes so you can't be dmg'd. That is a much better idea.
It's also a good toilet break time.

Waiting a few minutes for a cutscene isn't like it's the end of the world or like Time is Money or anything.

People need to lean a little patience in this game and sometimes, even manners.

All that needs to happen is either noone can attack or take damage or anything, or put the game on pause during a cutscene. I have been attacked numerous times, and I never took damage, and it didn't seem like the enemies were on top of me afterwards either, but if it has happened, then that is just messed up. I would never ask someone who wanted to watch the cutscene to skip it, even if I was getting attacked. That's the storyline. I didn't want to miss it, and I wouldn't want someone else to miss it either.

Oh yeah, and add mouth movements during the cutscene ANet!!!

How about unlocking the cut scene after you have been through that area so you can watch it all you want from the options menu. I know I have skipped a scene so the party can continue due to time issues within the party and later had to redo the mission with henchies just to see the cut scene.

Khelnozz I was having the same idea! It would be nice to go back and watch the scenes at ones leisure. Plus some of the scenes can be fun so it's nice to see them again in the future. The problem is that the system uses the game engine for gestures and movements so I'm not sure how that would work...maybe just input one of your characters in or something.

When i did Ruins of Surmia the first time , where you hold off charr until Rurik opens the gate, i was totally freaking out when the cut scene came on mid-fight and you could actually see the charr hitting rurik while he's talking. I went WTF and thought that is really poorly designed, if the mission didnt end there our entire team would surely been dead and i would've blown a gasket [and it wouldn't be any player's fault].
